Here’s What You Need to Know
The new Florida Building Code roofing related changes go into effect on December 31st, 2023.
The 8th Edition (2023) Florida Building Codes revisions include important changes to roof assembly requirements. Some of the key code enhancements apply to new roof construction and roof replacement improving wind and water infiltration resistance to prevent or minimize building damage.
Key Florida Building Codes have been enhanced to include:
- Roof Underlayment Testing and Assembly Requirements (1504.2.1, 1507.1.1, 1518.2, TAS103); Refer to Newsletter for detailed changes.
- Adoption of ASCE 7-22 for Wind Loads on Roofs
- Steep-Slope Underlayment Recover Acceptance and 2-ply Requirement (15.11.1 & 1521.4)
- Roof Deck Pavers – Panels Over Roof Assemblies
- Commercial Roof Solar Reflectivity Requirements (IELL C402.3)
- Roof Edge Systems and Gutter Standards (1504.5)
- Roof Coating Standards (1509)
- Pipes/Conduits Under Roof Deck Requirements (1510.12)
